What is the significance and symbolism of the upturned crescent moon on the forehead?
I know that it is shown on various representatives of the moon goddess in varying cultures and has also been shown on Shiva’s brow. In popular culture it is shown in cartoons and I’ve seen many modern pagans adopt the symbolism. I am looking for a deeper occult meaning to the symbolism both of an upturned lunar crescent as well as its placement on the brow.
Answer by Rai A Different meanings in different cultures.
BUT within a Pagan context it CAN represent the three phrases of the moon. Also represents the three phrases of women.
Answer by Raith the Glitter Ninja The moon can be a symbol of intuition and the brow chakra is considered a center of psychic power. I would assume a moon placed on the brow would representitive of one’s connectedness with things that are beyond our understanding. But this is my interpretation of it, so take it with a grain of salt.
Cartoon = Salior Moon. Loved that show as a kid.
Answer by eustacia It is an attractive item to wear on the head and symbolises what the person who is wearing it believes, that is connections between the female and the moon, which is usually seen through menstrual cycles, though the moon’s three phases are connected with life cycles by some people.
